The Gulf Shores Swim Team sent 18 swimmers to the Pensacola Navy Youth Holiday Invitational Swim Meet at the Bodenhamer
Center in Gulf Shores on December 4-5.  
 The Dolphins swam best times in 69% of the races that they entered.   
Assistant Coach David Lloyd selected Ben Malone and Emily Anson as the team’s male and female swimmers of the
meet.   According to Coach Lloyd, “Ben swam personal best times in all nine of his races and received 5 first place ribbons.  
Emily had best times in 7 of her 8 races and earned several standard breaker ribbons.”  

Other young swimmers of note were
Cody Hall, and Stephen Kichler.  Cody Hall, age 6, broke a team record in the 25 yard
backstroke for his age group.  This was accomplished in his first race at his first USA Swimming sanctioned meet.  Stephen
Kichler celebrated his final swim meet as an 8 year old by breaking 3 team records for 7-8 old boys.

Meanwhile in Tuscaloosa on the same weekend
6 Gulf Shores Swim Team members were representing Foley and Gulf
Shores High Schools in the
Alabama State High School Championship Swim Meet at the University of Alabama Aquatics
Center.   Senior
Olivia Murray of Gulf Shores High swam the 200 and 100 yard freestyle events, setting a club record in the
200 free.  Senior
Taylor Shannon swimming for Gulf Shores finished 13th in the 50 yard freestyle race and 15th in the 100
yard freestyle event.  His times in the finals broke records for the local club team.  Freshman
Catherine Taylor of Foley High
School was 15th in the state in the 50 yard freestyle event and 12th in the state in the 100 yard butterfly.  Catherine set club
team records in both events.  

Margaret Lloyd, an 8th grader, swam at the state high school meet on Friday in the 100 yard breaststroke and then returned
to Gulf Shores to set two team records on Sunday at the PNY Holiday Invitational .  Lloyd won the 200 yard breaststroke and
the 200 yard butterfly in team record times.
 
The next swim meet on the schedule for the Gulf Shores Swim Team will be the
GPAC Winter Invitational in Gulf Breeze
Florida starting January 14th
.  Meanwhile the team will practice during the Christmas holidays in their home pool at the
Bodenhamer Center.

Under the auspices of the City of Gulf Shores, the
Gulf Shores Swim Team is a year round USA swimming club team that
practices daily at the Bodenhamer Center in Gulf Shores.  Children from the ages of 5 to 18 are encouraged to participate.
